WYNDHAMS WINS BIG AT GREAT TASTE 2021!
Great Taste, the world’s most trusted food and drink awards, has announced its stars of 2021 and Wyndhams - Bajan Coffee Roasters was awarded eight (8) Great Taste awards.
Continuing from their 2-star award for their Soup Bowl blend in 2020 , the remaining Surf Series blends won 2-stars for Dawn Patrol and 1-star for Duppies.
Further, Six (6) single origin coffees from their Progressive and Core Series won 1 and 2 stars respectively for their unique flavours and expert roasting by Head Roaster Jalisa Als.
THE BIG WINNERS ARE:
Dawn Patrol - Espresso Blend - 2 Stars
Judges comments: This espresso has a big punchy mouthfeel contrasting with its silky almost velvety smooth crema. Sweet chocolate tones, dried fruit on the finish. A subtle wine-like quality develops with milk. This coffee almost dances on the palate and gives a remarkably long finish.
Sumatra Wahana - Single Origin Espresso - 2 Stars
Judges comments: A punchy coffee with high viscosity. Earthy and dark chocolate tones.
A consistent medium to medium dark roast and an even bean size.
Yirgz - Single Origin Filter/Pour-over coffee - 2 Stars
Judges comments: There’s a really bright, intensely juicy, fruit flavour up front, good depth, balanced acidity, rounded sweetness. A satisfying cup all round.
Ethiopia Guji - Ato Yidnekachew Seleshi - Single Origin Filter/Pour-over coffee - 2 Stars
Judges comments: Berry notes, hints of chocolate, pleasing caramelised sweetness, well-rounded, subtle and balanced.

When we won 2-stars for Soup Bowl in 2020 it gave us a reassuring boost. We built upon this and now with winning four (4) more 2-stars and four (4) 1-stars in 2021 it provides further confirmation and confidence in our pursuit to take our Bajan roasted coffee out into the world.

I'm most proud of the 2-stars for Dawn Patrol. It was our first blend and an homage to traditional espresso but elevating the flavours by using Specialty grade coffees. And now with every blend in the Surf Series having won a Great Taste award I look forward to explaining to consumers around the world what a “Duppie” is and what it means to go on “Dawn Patrol” at “Soup Bowl” *
*The Surf Series blends are named in-part after Dominic’s favourite waves found on the east and north west coasts of Barbados.

I’m in love with the flavours we are getting from our coffees. It's such a versatile product and can be enjoyed in so many ways. Filter, espresso, cold-brew. Gone are the days of bitter and burnt. Hello to tropical fruit juiciness, sugarcane sweetness, syrupy body and heavenly aromas.
The Wyndhams team will continue with their core ethos to be a quality focused, proudly Bajan coffee roaster.
What is Great Taste?
Great Taste was founded in 1994 and is organised by the Guild of Fine Food in the UK. Every year, each entry is blind-tasted by a team of judges who are dedicated to finding the most exquisite tasting food and drink regardless of branding or packaging.
What are Great Taste judges looking for?
They judge the quality of ingredients used, they’re looking for great texture and appearance but most importantly they are looking for truly great taste.
